Baby Health Problem

Depression is a syndrome that is common among the people irrespective of the gender. A normal person when under depression needs to face number of serious health complications. And when a woman is depressed when she is pregnant there are a number of complexities that can arise both for the mother and the child.

An expectant mother being depressed is quite common and it was once known that the depression that is caused during the pregnancy is due to the improper functioning of the pregnancy hormones. And it is now said that the increasing level of the hormones during pregnancy increases the chances for depression. Some other depression causing factors during the prenatal period are changes in the chemical levels in the brain, physical, emotional and psychological factors.

Effects of depression during pregnancy

It is said that exceeding levels of depression leads to dangerous complications in the baby and the mother. There is a serious trouble in the eating habits of the mother, and there is also likelihood of the mother getting used to smoking and drinking which may further lead to a suicidal behavior. These exceeding limits of the depression levels thus elicit premature birth, developmental problems and low birth weight. The depression that the mother goes through during her pregnancy stages can also impact the stress hormones of the baby.

These troubles in the stress hormones are also responsible for the sleep problems that the baby suffers. This can, in addition cause difficulty in the studying, metabolism regulation, sustenance of the cardiovascular system. Moreover, the trauma that the mother goes through will also affect the later stages of the child. It can either be hyperactive, inattentive, under active or even exhibition of poor self control.

In some cases there is an asymmetry in the coordination of fingers, feet and elbows. According to some researches, the children whose mothers underwent depression during pregnancy are more prone to show cognitive and behavioral problems.

Dealing with depression during pregnancy

As the effects of depression takes a toll on the health of the child, it is necessary that every mother identifies the depression symptoms and work on getting over the problem.

• Have a complete knowledge of the depression symptoms so that it becomes easier for you to identify the problem.
• Talk about the uneasiness you feel to others so that atleast they can have an eye on the stress symptoms you show.
• Eat well according to the instructions given by the doctor. Also inform the doctor about the way you feel.
• Do not attempt any self medications even if it is a natural treatment. Once you feel you are ill at ease or perturbed make sure you visit the doctor and get a treatment done.

Handling new born babies with complete care is one of the complex jobs that parents’ have to take over. Babies with sensitive skin and body need intense care and affection with full of patience handling them. As there are several skin problems and infections that are common in children keeping the baby protected needs a keen knowledge on the skin problems and newborn baby skin care.

Pimples and red spots

Baby acnes can also affect the tender skin as it starts from the mom’s womb. The hormonal changes in mother affects the baby’s skin as it boosts excess oiliness that clogs on the baby’s skin. Pimples with red spots are common in the cheek and nose region which will fade off in few weeks of time which require no treatments except the use of baby lotions.

Prickly heat with irritation, small reddish-pink bumps occurs in regions that are prone to sweat such as neck, armpits, skin folds, diaper area and in the back. Loose-fit clothing (preferably soft cotton based) with cool dry environment can heal the problem quickly.

Baby birthmarks are also considered to be one of the skin problems if they worry you. But generally they are not treated with medication as this mark does not cause any problem. It’s a slight discoloration in small region of the baby’s body. A pediatrician can help if it is a disturbing factor.

Dry skin in babies is more common problem, but the inner skin in quite good healthier and moist with complete softness. Moisturizing can help well.

Sunburns affect the infants tender skin, keeping off direct sunlight is highly recommended for the first six months. Baby sunscreen, umbrellas and hats helps in keeping off the direct heat. Applying a cold cloth for few minutes will help in curing mild sunburns. Zinc oxide cream can do well on nose, lips and the ears regions.

Cradle Cap is caused due to excess of oil which is seen in the first or second month soon after the baby is born. It is also referred to as Seborrheic dermatitis with symptoms of waxy-scaly texture in the scalp, eyebrows, and eyelids and also in some parts of the face.

Special shampoo, baby oil, and certain special lotions can help in the treatment.

Four basic guidelines for newborn baby skin care …

• Identifying the cause of the skin problem is important to start the treatment.
• Check for the level of infection if it can be treated at home or must consult a pediatrician.
• Quick remedies for a skin infection minimize the infectious factor.
• Regular check up with the child specialist is essential to discuss about newborn baby care ideas.
• Close attention is essential to observe a minor abnormality.

Homemade exfoliator is recommended for new born baby skin care which does not react harsh over the skin.

Every parent wants to provide the most nutritious food for their growing baby. That simply goes without saying. A baby`s system is smaller and more fragile than those of adults. And development of their central nervous system, bones, immune and hormonal systems need optimum nutrients. Babies are also more susceptible to toxins in the environment and poorly processed baby foods. If you`re not a parent with lots of spare time to make your own baby food from scratch (most of us are forced to multi task all day), there are lots of excellent options. Many baby food companies now produce baby food with quality and even organic ingredients. There are so many brands now that cover all the food groups to ensure a balanced diet for your baby. Of course whole grains are an essential and when fed with plenty of fluids, will keep a baby or child regular. Again, be sure to look the word “organic” on the label or box. Organic means that the food is grown without the use of pesticides and in a certain way to insure that that were no chemicals or preservatives used in the processing of the food. Some also avoid foods that have been genetically modified. Many adults prefer eating this way – I know I do. Everyone in my family chooses brands and products that have natural ingredients as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Why not instill good nutrional habits in your baby and children? Especially when too many kids have been acclimated to eating fast food, there`s such a need to steer them away from this style of eating. Look at the statistics of overweight children in the country in recent years. There`s a huge health benefit to avoiding fast food and let`s not forget the packaged foods that are loaded with chemicals, saturated fats, and sodium levels that are through the roof. Just read the ingredient lables and you`ll see what I mean. As an example of finding unprounceable and even unappetizing ingredients in some packaged food items, the next time you are in the supermarket, check out the ingredients in a package of scrapple or spam. That should be enough to convince you to consider foods that are very close to their natural form and made with pure ingredients.

It used to be more expensive to buy natural food products in general but now most supermarkets across the country are jumping on the organic bandwagon, making healthy foods not only very available but also price competetive with specialty and health food stores. You can find them next to the other typical baby food brands on the shelves or in the health food isle or section of the supermarket. Reading the ingredient label, you`ll find that there`s no added sugar, salt, additives, or preservatives. After all, you do want the best and most nutritous foods
